The Biblical story of the prophet Elijah’s departure in a chariot of fire is an unusual fantastic sight of magic and awe. His charismatic character keeps appearing in Jewish folklore and is connected to ritual objects such as a goblet and a chair.
On an island in Main, in the presence of a small audience, I orchestrated a ritual burning of chairs that I adorned to experience that transformative moment of departure. On a split screen, a perfect glorious burning scene is contrasted with the continuous attempts to kindle the fire and keep it going.
