Lilith Sculptures

Just as a snake sheds its skin as it grows, remnants of Lilith’s body and face represent the cyclical process of her transition between decay and renewal.

The Skin Series focuses on skin and the changes it undergoes by aging, sun damage, or scarring with reference to Venus of Milo as an ideal of beauty and to feminism.

Pieces in this series are made from packing paper, fabric, wood bark, and tar, which are less sturdy and noble than the original marble. Hardening these soft ephemeral materials is an attempt to stabilize, mend, and preserve time and ideal.
